What

A new mechanism for DAOSquare community. It includes

  • Community structure
  • Membership

Why

The goal of DAOSquare is support the innovations in web3 via a new style incubator. Basically it has three components, Incubator infrastructure, VentureDAOs, and Community.

Incubator infrastructure provide a series of open tools for funding raise to help investors better interact with projects.

VentureDAOs are those organizations based on incubator infrastructure (DAOSquare VentureDAO will be one of them) to support those promising projects.

Community is an open space for innovators and talent. Innovators can find like-minded people to form startup teams, and also evryone can join startup teams here. In addition anyone can form their own guild to provide services to the community, such as development, design, marketing, etc. So as you can see, community is a important component for DAOSquare.

For now, DAOSquare community did a great job yet, but honesty it still has a bit long way to go before it reaches the goal above. The problem lies in several parts,

  • Community did not to provide a clear structure to help people understand what they can do in the community, how to get started, and what they can get.

  • Community did not to provide a clear membership to support this structure and help people clearly understand how to move forward.

So, we need to figure out the way to change it.

We can improve it through two parts:

  • Community structure
  • Membership

Community structure

There is a structure and rights about community member below.

There are three roles here, Interestors, Citizen, Builders. And it also shows the method of member advancement. Based on this structure, I propose to divide community members into four categories of membership.

  • Passport
  • Guild
  • Cafeteria
  • Matrix

Passport, Guild, Cafeteria, Matrix are Citizens, Guild, Cafeteria, Matrix are Builders.

Membership

Membership is some NFTs. They allows us to access different Discord channels and unlock different community rights. How do we get membership and what are their rights and benefits? There is a table to explain. NOTE: It’s just my personal idea, need to discuss with community to figure out the final decision.

Passport
Passport is passport to access DAOSquare, you can get all opportunities of investment, learnning, events, community benefits.

Energy:

  • Opportunities of investment.
  • X to earn. Includs RadioParty, Growing rewards, etc.
  • Community benefits.

Requirement:

  • 10 $RICE staked in DKP2 pool
  • 0 DKP1 to burn
  • 1 DKP2 to burn
  • 1 DKP3 to burn

Visa:
1 month

Guild
Guild allow you to join every guilds in DAOSquare community, become a member, learn together, work together, earn together, enjoy together.

Energy:

  • Full access rights of Passport.
  • Be a Guild member to participate in EVERY guilds in DAOSquare community. Learn and earn.

Requirement:

  • 100 $RICE staked in DKP2 pool
  • 2 DKP1 to burn
  • 10 DKP2 to burn
  • 5 DKP3 to burn

Visa:
1 month

Cafeteria
Cafeteria allow you to get the governance rights for DAOSquare community. It will gradually become the governance hub of DAOSquare.

Energy:

  • Full access rights of Guild.
  • Be a Cafeteria member to participate in the governance of DAOSquare community.

Requirement:

  • 2000 $RICE staked in DKP2 pool
  • 10 DKP1 to burn
  • 100 DKP2 to burn
  • 20 DKP3 to burn

Visa:
1 month

Matrix
Matrix is the full-time guild for promote the development of DAOSquare in early stage. Including products, operation, strategy, and more.

Energy:
Be a Matrix member to participate in the buiding for the projects and operations of DAOSquare as full-time.

Requirement:

  • Be a volunteer to do some contribution in community as matching role.
  • Pass the Matrix interview.
  • Pass the 3 months internship.

Visa:
1 month

Some potential questions

What is the Visa?

Just like the visa of passport, we need to renew our membership after the expiration date. The cost of visa is the same as Requirement.

What is DKP and how to get?

DKP is a DAO contribution protocol. It allows anyone to quantify their community contributions as DKP and earn memberships through various combinations of DKPs. It’s completely open and can be earned autonomously by anyone. It’s also our thinking about DAO/community governance. Basically, we need to consider more contribution factors than simply holding token.

  • DKP1: donate WXDAI to get DKP1
  • DKP2: stake RICE to get DKP2
  • DKP3: join our community events to earn DKP3

Will my Genesis NFT still work?

The Genesis NFT will be exchanged for the new Cafeteria NFT. the Genesis NFT will be kept as a collection item.

I hope we can move forward to new stage asap. But we must discuss it in depth and gain community consensus. 我依旧觉得 Guild 不应单设门槛，这似乎限制了贡献。不如适当提高 Passport 的门槛，然后其中想要有所贡献的，自然就是 Guild。

从 Matrix 目前的设定来看，并没有融入到这套机制、体系里。主要问题还是，这些全职 Guild 成员受谁的雇佣，工资来源于哪里。如果是受 DAO 雇佣，那完全可以拆分为各个职责、功能的 Guild。

另外「$RICE 质押数量」的要求和「DKP2 使用」的要求有没有重复？DPK2 即 $RICE 质押数量*质押时间的结果。

身份的划分我认为没啥问题，可能名称听起来会给人一种错觉，我的理解是贡献是不分身份的，即使没身份也可以做贡献。
但感觉每月身份消耗有些高，是否可以入门槛提高一些，每月续费降低一些。
Matrix这个身份确实独立于其他身份，同样有SNode的这些疑问。

tbh, this is a little bit complicated proposal. I have some questions about it tho.

Firstly, why is the structure in three layers but there are four diff. roles? imo, if our objective is a new type of incubator, the most important thing would be the clear structure which can be easily understood by everyone. So I suppose the four categories of membership are not necessary. I prefer three roles directly.

Secondly, everyone should and can participate in the governance of community if he/she is interested in these things. That is the power of decentralization. So for the first layer of roles, i.e. interestor, there are more things they can do. They are not only limited to gaining information in the community, but they can also provide more proposals to the community. That is DAO. DAO is open for everyone.

Thirdly, I propose merging Citizen and Builder as a single role. Sorry I don’t learn any differences between them. It is too difficult to explain the roles to newcomers. If we only have 2 or 3 roles, that could be easier.

The last one is about the burning of DKP. All of the contributors are free to contribute. If we need burn DKP to give the contribution certification, that would be a big barrier for all of the people.

To summarize, I suppose we need to design these roles very carefully and clarify the objective of the structure.

「Interestors 对社区感兴趣的人」与「Citizen 社区成员」还是有区别的，任何人都可以参与治理的话，会造成明显的治理负担。对「Citizen」设定一定的门槛，还可以加强其身份认同。

「Citizen」和「Builder」之间的确应该毫无门槛，任何人都可以随时参与贡献。但是「Builder」内的分级是有必要的，各个项目的核心管理以及社区的治理，需要相对固定的参与，这里过高的人员流动性会造成低效。一定的门槛，特别是经济承诺有助于提供保证。

1.每一个身份都对应相应的条件是很好的，这样给自己也是一个提示：进入daosquare是有门槛的，好的DAO是需要有自己一套完整的运作机制，去中心化自治组织也是有核心领导和相关治理人员的，我们还在向着完全DAO的方向前进。但是，关于获取每个身份对应的机制需要再优化一下，passport门槛为100个rice、5个dkp1、1个dkp2、1个dkp3；guild门槛500个rice，10个dkp1，5个dkp2，5个dkp3；社区食堂门槛还行，但是全职人员为啥就变了呢，他们才是真正该有持币限制的，最少也得和社区食堂的门槛一致。
2.visa是每个月消耗一次的频率有点高，到时间能完成任务的也就几个全职人员和部分社区食堂人员，我建议半年搞一次社区身份认证。

In the coming community role planning, there alway be a requirement such as RICE holdings.

My suggestion is, Could we adjust Discord’s current allocation of Rice Holders (from RICE Baby to RICE Overload) to match the new community role?

For example:

RICE kid = Passport
RICE Boss = Guild
RICE Overload = Cafteria

The advantage of doing that is to streamline the identification system, but also convenient to monitor their own status.

我觉得维持身份成本有点高啊，因为DKP3本来就不是花钱能挣的的，就是为社区贡献得来的，已经来之不易了，舍不得把辛苦赚来的DKP3消耗掉，质押、冻结方式或者提高持有数量门槛也许会更容易让人接受点 :smile:。

After discussions with Cafeteria, I would love to share my idea about the new mechanism of community.

1 - Open the Guild role, every member who got the passport can join every guild for free.
2 - Cancel the Guild as a limited role, and just a honorary role decided by each Guild.
3 - Cancel Matrix role in community mechanism.

I think the goal of this proposal is important. An area that slacks with most DAOs is the ability to effectively onboard new talent into the DAO (so they can start contributing in areas they can provide value to).

I think keeping things simple is key, and splitting different membership options into builder, citizen and interestor make things too complicated. These sub-collaboration groups will form naturally within the community, no need to force them with membership tiers I think.
I do agree that a gatekept community is important, and would suggest just 1 tier of access to the community for a reasonable amount of $RICE staked in DKP2 pool. I don’t think burning is a good thing. We don’t want contributors to have to ‘pay’ to contribute. Staking displays an allegiance to the DAO and ensures everyone within the gated community has a uniform financial incentive. It also gatekeeps quality (stops people that are not serious contributors (who have no tokens) from joining and degrading quality inside). Importantly, it does not require ‘payment’. Staking should be a non-event for serious contributors (who would have been holding their tokens long-term anyway).

Too early for an NFT I think. Keep it to the token. NFT is added complication and diverts funding away from the token - I don’t see any real gain of an NFT collection.

Also disagree with Visa system. Should be no need to renew to contribute. Staking X tokens is enough - as a display of allegiance and collective financial incentive.

On the whole, I think the proposal aims to succeed in fulfilling an important goal, but makes things too complicated. A simple 1 membership, staking $RICE token approach would be best. Once we get within the gatekept community, sub communities can form naturally. The main thing is to get people in - simplicity will help this goal succeed.
